Abstract :
This work presents a generation scheduling model for multi-reservoir interconnected systems, to be used in operation planning as an auxiliary tool in the determination of the feasibility of weekly operation policies. The nonlinearities associated with the operation of each hydro plant are represented in detail. The hydro generation and the energy interchanges between control areas are scheduled in order to meet the weekly operation targets. The problem is solved by Dynamic Programming and the Principle of Progressive Optimality is used to allow its temporal decomposition. Sa tisfactory computational results have been obtained and the model is now being incorporated into the operation planning of the Brazilian system, which is composed by about 50 reservoirs and 8 control areas.
