Abstract :
Optical networking standards are being developed to facilitate global interoperability of optical services. They are being drafted, approved, and implemented in every area of the telecommunications industry. To maximize one´s value from the standards, one should understand the standards organizations involved, the opportunities for participation, and the strategies for successful contributions. This paper presents an overview of these aspects to stimulate thought and to encourage participation in the standards development process.
