Abstract
It is shown that the algorithm proposed by A.M. Tekalp and A.T. Erdem (1989) for Fourier phase reconstruction indeed gives the least-squares (LS) estimate of the phase. This is important because the Tekalp-Erdem estimator has a much simpler implementation than with some other approaches, because it only involves averaging in the log-spectrum domain. It is also shown that this estimator can be used to obtain the LS estimate of the log-Fourier modulus
