Abstract
The commenter points out that the above-titled paper by G.E. Thomas (ibid., vol.28, p.27-36, Jan. 1981) is the first to use a nonlinear Schrodinger equation to describe microwave amplifiers. The commenter examines some equations that underly predictions, and reviews all claims of experimental validation. Questions are raised about both the equations and the claims of validation.<>
