Abstract :
Three different versions of the discharge free thermal blanket have been tested at electron energies in the range 5-30 KeV and fluxes 1-15 nA/cm2. The different versions have different thermo-optical properties and by suitable choice of materials and thicknesses the required thermo-optical properties may be achieved. All three versions proved capable of withstanding the electron environment without producing discharges. The best electrostatic performance was obtained with the Mk. III version which employs a transparent conductive coating and a clear polyester adhesive and also has the best thermooptical properties. The maximum surface voltage obtained with this blanket was 2.0 KV at a temperature of -170°C.
