Abstract
A method to compensate for the pile-up error by means of a switching process in the pulse shaping network of a linear amplifier is presented. The influence of the switching on noise performance is analyzed. The improvement in count rate at pulse height analysis on applying this method is demonstrated for three typical filters. It is shown that an increase in the count rate of analysis by a factor of about three is possible without significant degradation in amplitude resolution.
