Abstract
An experimental investigation into the fatigue resistance of lead alloy E (nominal Sn 0.4%, Sb 0.2%) is detailed, and the results of some 150 individual tests have been treated statistically to provide a convenient method for predicting, to any desired probability level, the fatigue life of this material as a function of the amplitude and frequency of cyclically applied strains. The results are considered in relation to typical requirements of submarine power cable circuits. It is concluded that lead alloy E is an entirely satisfactory sheathing material for such cable circuits
