Abstract :
Rural areas in developing countries cannot hope to have their electricity externally supplied. The author describes work carried out to try and reduce the costs of microhydroelectric plants which are an ideal source of remotely-generated power. Work into the replacement of costly synchronous generators with induction generators using cheap industrial induction motors and fixed capacitors for the excitation is detailed
