Abstract :
This year sees the introduction of a new set of electricity safety regulations which could affect all electrical engineers in the course of their work. The author describes these regulations which will apply to all electrical equipment used at work where the equipment may give rise to the hazards of electric shock, burn, fire or explosion. The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 are made under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and give protection to employees and members of the public with respect to electrical equipment which is used at work. Duties to comply with the Regulations fall on, among others, employers, the self-employed and employees who have any measure of control over the danger of electric shock, burn, fire or explosion associated with electrical equipment
