Abstract
Nigeria has the potential for extensive solar, hydro and nuclear energy programmes. However the cost of researching and installing such technologies has ensured that old, reliable fossil-fuel sources will dominate electricity production for the foreseeable future. The author briefly reviews the state of the natural energy resources in Nigeria, coal, gas and oil, and discusses the state of the electricity supply in relation to the fact that Nigeria is a third world country
