  • Abstract
The author briefly discusses the discovery of electromagnetism and how it was recognised as being capable of detecting metallic objects by reflection. The author then goes on to discuss the development of radar starting with the Daventry experiment in 1935. The author also discusses the development of pulse radar, microwave radar, surveillance radar and tracking radar. Airborne radar and radar countermeasures, in particular chaff, are also briefly discussed. Following the Second World War much effort was put into developing radar and radar countermeasures. The author describes the major points of this development and goes on to mention civilian applications and future developments
