Abstract :
We extend the theoretical results obtained by Stevenson et al. (1987) to two distributions and provide a quantitative comparison of 1D morphological filter edge localization with two classical types of kernel-based smoothing filters (the mean and the close relative to morphological filters, the median filter). Implications in the context of statistical texture segmentation are briefly discussed
