  • Abstract
The privatisation of the UK electricity supply industry is expected to lead to an increase in small scale local power generation. The authors give the four basic reasons for employing generation local to the load. The authors discuss the example of an industrial consumer receiving power at 11 kV but with a local generator to provide the peak-lopping function and to ensure supply security. They discuss synchronising the generator to the busbar, load control, protection, faults, and earthing
