Abstract :
The well known 3-phase inverter incorporates three pairs of power switching devices. When the number of phases exceeds three, there is the possibility of obtaining a phase-balanced system from less switch pairs than the number of phases. With particular reference to multiphase machines, this paper examines the effect of switch-pair elimination on voltage balance and switch loading. Graphical methods of interpretation are given, together with examples.
