Abstract :
The paper summarises the results of measurements made to determine the design criteria for building radio-frequency applicators for drying textile materials. The method of measuring the Q-factor is applied in this field in a unique manner and it is quite generally applicable to all r.f. applications. The results are described by useful empirical equations, one of which can readily be applied in developing a new type of moisture meter. As a result of these measurements, a new electrode design was developed which considerably improves the efficiency and reliability of applicators. Finally, calculations based on the measurements are compared with practical results.
