Abstract :
An experimental and analytical study of a Xi-core transverse-flux plate levitator is described. A finite-difference approach based on magnetic vector potential is employed, utilising an `inifinite¿ boundary technique. The experimental results confirm the accuracy of the method. Results are shown for the power input per unit vertical force. It is shown that increasing the `goodness¿ factor can have a deleterious effect on stability.
