Abstract :
The proposed 3-phase stepped wave inverter is based on a new method of controlling the double bridge inverter. The control of individual bridges is programmed to yield a stepped voltage waveform with six steps per quarter cycle and a total harmonic distortion of 7.75%. When voltage control is introduced, the proposed pulse-amplitude and width-modulated inverter has predominant harmonics of the 23rd and 25th. The scheme utilises a small number of thyristor power switches operated at low commutation frequency. The results have been experimentally verified.
