Electromagnetic-field solution of a diffuse plasma boundary

An exact wave solution is obtained for a transitional plasma region having an Epstein variation for both the electron density and collision frequency. The planewave reflection and transmission coefficients for such a layer are expressed in terms of a correction term multiplying the coefficients, corresponding to a layer of variable electron density but constant collision frequency.
