Abstract
A novel autogeneration mechanism was conceived and used to generate and accelerate an intense relativistic electron beam. This was accomplished via the passage of a primary relativistic electron beam pulse through an uncharged pulse forming transmission line cavity. A second beam pulse was generated with the same duration as the primary beam, e. g., 10-20 nsec, but delayed by a time interval equal to the double transit time of the induced electromagnetic wave inside the cavity.
