Abstract :
Mr. Chairman, fellow members of the Institute of Radio Engineers, and guests: Several weeks ago I attended a Police Communications Officers Convention in Miami, and while there I had occasion to observe the operation of experimental police radio communications on the newly developed 400-mc band. During this demonstration at the base station, I talked to specially equipped police car cruising on the outskirts of the city. At one point in the conversation the occupant of the car asked me if I would address this IRE group at Chicago on October 25. Being the modest type, you know, I naturally hesitated, but not long enough to give him the opportunity to withdraw the invitation, then I accepted. I haven´t yet been able to figure out why he took out his knife and cut his tongue off, but, in any event, I am here tonight as a result of a conversation had over land mobile radio system.
