Abstract :
Factors affecting the operation of the transverse a.d.p. modulator are discussed. A modulator is described which incorporates a halfwave plate to improve temperature stability and extinction ratio. The modulator has a halfwave voltage of 250 V, a bandwidth of 3.3 mHz and an extinction ratio of 160:1.
