Abstract :
Two key components in a high performance tuner/IF system for television are described; a surface acoustic wave (SAW) low loss filter and a surface acoustic wave resonator. The low loss filter provides the adjacent channel rejection and ultimate spurious signal suppression with accurate amplitude and phase control that are the cornerstones for the high performance receiver. The resonator is the frequency control element for a stable, low-cost local oscillator for down converting the TV signal after it is cleaned up by the fixed frequency low loss filter. In this paper the characteristics of the SAW ccnponents are described.
