Internal Surge Limiting for Picture Tubes

Despite the application of modern manufacturing methods and rigid quality control procedures at each step of the process, TV picture tubes operated at present-day receiver anode voltages may occasionally produce a high voltage arcover. With receivers now being constructed with 100-percent semiconductor active elements, a flashover may, if the circuitry is not adequately designed, result in catastrophic failure somewhere in the unit or in interference to low level circuits, such as memory tuning systems.
