Abstract
The steady stream of new scientific and technical terms and expressions is a major source of difficulty for those whose task it is to translate technical literature from English into Chinese. The problem is the greater because of the effective division of the Chinese language territory into two separate domains: mainland China and Taiwan. Between these two domains practices differ greatly in respect to the translation of recent scientific and technical terms. Such differences and their implications are discussed
