Abstract :
For pt.XV see ibid., vol.8, no.6, p.37 et seq. (1993). High-voltage capacitor technology is reviewed, and the characteristics of partial discharges (PDs) in these capacitors, the PD´s ultrasonic signatures, and the effects of acoustic attenuation within capacitor windings are discussed. This discussion forms the basis for an analysis of ultrasonic instrument design as related to PD detection in capacitors. The calibration and verification of proper operation required of all PD measuring systems are described. Some data from acoustic PD measurements of field-installed capacitors are presented.<>
