Abstract :
The increasing availability of powerful low-cost microcomputer and graphics facilities should, in the future, allow interactive computer-aided design (CAD) to play an increasingly cost-effective role in the design of variable-speed drives (VSD). In recognition of these developments this paper describes the detailed development of a steady-state current-fed PWM VSD CAD package which offers the designer the possibility of investigating a wide range of PWM operational modes. Demonstrations of the capabilities and potential uses of the CAD package, using typical operational modes, are provided and compared with experimental results from a microprocessor controlled VSD.
