Abstract :
Background information on the history of the electricity supply industry, in general, and CLP, in particular, is provided. The developments that led up to Castle Peak A and B power stations and the 400 kV transmission system are discussed. The collaborative investigation with China into a pumped storage scheme and a nuclear power station are mentioned, as is the problem of limiting the UK home orders for turbine generators to ratings of 660 MW, whereas overseas clients may require larger units. Credits are given to the collaborative efforts of the power company, the manufacturers, consultants and the various government departments.
