Abstract :
A technique of treating the stability of a.c. arc discharges, based on the macroscopic characteristics of the arc and its associated circuit elements, is presented. Conditions for stable arc currents and optimum arc waveforms are developed. The derived conditions represent rationalised criteria for the design of the arc circuit.
