Abstract :
Differential equations relating to forward- and backward-wave components in a nonuniform transmission line are studied. It is shown that the forward- and backward-wave components can be decoupled if correct values of the forward- and backward-wave impedances are chosen. These impedances satisfy Riccati-type differential equations. A knowledge of these impedances enables one to find the propagation factors corresponding to travelling waves in either forward or backward directions.
