Abstract :
The necessary and sufficient condition for the optimality of closed-loop single-input systems is obtained from the location of the closed-loop poles. Three lemmas are developed which decide whether a feedback shifting the open-loop poles parallel to either axis in the s plane is optimal or not. In addition, the performance index is determined for optimal single-input systems.
