Abstract :
A new position sensitive PMT with original features has been developed. It includes 64 parallel amplification channels arranged in a 8 × 8 matrix with a pitch of 2.54 mm. This tube makes use of a proximity focusing input optics and of a compact metal dynode electron multiplier with imaging capability. Such a design makes very low the crosstalk between adjacent channels (<3%). This feature together with the high electron amplification (>106) provided by the high gain dynodes allows a simultaneous analysis of low light events on the 64 channels. The PMT design and performance are particularly well suited to scintillating fibre readout and to photon counting imaging.
