Abstract :
The surfaces of steel sheets delivered by steelworks in packs are generally oiled. To separate them a U-shaped DC electromagnet or permanent magnet can be applied. Using the finite-difference method the 3-dimensional field distribution and forces on the top sheet have been calculated. Some remarks about the computer aided design of electromagnetic devices for the separation of steel sheets have also been included.
