    The history of the Vehicular Technology Society (VTS), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) is traced from its establishment in 1949 as the Vehicular and Railroad Communications Professional Group, through its existence as the Professional Group on Vehicular Communications, (PGVC), and up to its present role in mobile communications, automotive technology, and transportation systems.
