Abstract :
On May 24, 1977 the FCC finalized an engineering rule, permitting the use of circularly polarized television broadcasting antennas. This was the first administration in the world to do so. It gave TV antenna manufacturers approval to sell suitable CP antennas. Some were in the design stage for many years, while others were thoroughly tested. This came about through Rule Making procedures instigated by ABC Television, and were based on favorable findings by ABC in the Chicago field tests on VHF Channel 7, and the JAMPRO ANTENNA COMPANY field tests on UHF Channel 19, Modesto, California. Several engineering groups also helped bring CP to television by filing favorable comments.
