Medium-Frequency Skywave Propagation in Region 2

A Regional Administrative MF Broadcasting Conference (ITU Region 2, the Americas) is being planned. Technical standards will be discussed in the first session which has been scheduled to commence on March 10, 1980 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. One of the most important topics will be the selection of a skywave field strength prediction method for international coordination in Region 2. The purpose of this paper is to review qualitatively the existing prediction methods and to compare these methods quantitatively against measured data taken in various parts of Region 2. The merits and shortcomings of these methods when applied to different geographical areas will be studied. Suggested modifications to improve the existing methods will also be discussed.
