Abstract :

Let $g(x)h(x) = x^n - 1, n = q^m - 1$ , and assume that $h(x)$ contains a primitive factor $f(x)$ of degree $m$ . If $V$ is the $q$ -ary $(n, k)$ cyclic code generated by $g(x), U$ its subcode generated by $g(x)f(x)$ , then it will be shown that the weight distribution of $V$ can be obtained from the weight distribution of $U$ and its coset $U + g(x)$ .
