Abstract :
A micro-computer based apparatus has been developed for the measurement of television picture quality when debased by noise. The basic principle is the simulation of the human eye by optical, electronic and software means. The micro-computer measures the standard deviation of light intensity caused bynoise. This standard deviation is transformed to give a quality rating. The measurements of quality done with the apparatus agree with the results of subjective tests which have been performed. The main advantage of such an apparatus is that it can measure the picture´s quality in a few seconds instead of the many days required for subjective tests.
