Abstract :
The properties of a class of devices, consting of two uniform volume diffraction gratings perpendicular to each other, are studied. Coupled differential equations are derived and solved, in the general case, in the form of an infinite series. It is shown that for an incident wave satisfying the Bragg conditions, three further waves will be generated inside the grating. The amplitude distributions of all the waves are calculated at the input ports.
