Abstract
The paper reviews forms and techniques of current interruption in general, and considers the techniques, effects and implications of arc interruption in a vacuum and in gas at atmospheric or higher pressures. Arcelectrode and arc-column problems are presented, followed by treatment of the four established media for arc interruption.
