Abstract :
The lightning-flash counter recommended by CIGRÉ (international conference on large electric systems) employs a horizontal aerial suspended between two masts approximately 35 m apart. In an effort to reduce the cost of installation and ground space required, a vertical-aerial lightning-flash counter has been designed which has approximately the same operating characteristics as the horizontal-aerial flash counter. The circuit is a modified and improved version of that used in the transistorised CIGRÉ lightning-flash counter. Some preliminary field tests are reported.
