Abstract :
Recent years have seen continued growth in the application of computer modeling to design and analysis of electron guns for cathode ray tubes. This has been especially true with the advent of self converging deflection systems in color cathode-ray-tube technology, where increasing emphasis has been placed on the interaction of the electron gun and deflection field. Computer modeling allows a rigorous analysis of an entire system including inspection of the various properties of the electron spot and deflection field which lead to deflected spot distortion. A disadvantage of a computer analysis, the outputs of which are generally numerical, has been interpretation of results. Since the spot distortions are generally non-symmetrical, analysis and comparison of the vast numerical descriptions are at best tedious.
