Abstract
Advances in cost effective consumer I. C. technology have made it attractive to redesign the chroma system consolidating all active circuit functions into a single chip. The design goals for the new system were: 1) It must retrofit into the system. (No new modules other than the chroma module itself can be generated.) 2) Parts count must be minimized. 3) Adjustments must be minimized. 4) The amount of printed circuit board area utilized must be minimized. 5) The new system should have a flesh tone correction system that does not distort greens or blues, and minimizes distortion in the yellow region while providing effective flesh tone correction. 6) The chip should be adaptable to either color difference or RGB systems. 7) The chip should have a large, stable output swing capability to simplify the requirements placed on the video output stages. 8) Performance should equal or exceed the present two chip system in every area. 9) A significant cost savings must result.
