A New Design Approach to Digitally Tuned Radio Receivers

A novel systems appoach to the design of modern radio receiver is presented. Main directions of ´SYSTEM 1000´ research program on a new family of integrated circuits for radio receivers are discussed on the example of adaptation of the ´pseudoclosed loop´ technique for FM tuner design. Several FM receiver design options are analyzed, including automatic station search and band scanning circuits, Weather Band front-end design, automatic tuning control and frequency displaying techniques based on ´SYSTEM 1000´ family.
