Abstract :
A PC-based (DOS) computer program that has unique features for identifying the type of fault and its location on overhead transmission/distribution lines is discussed. Balanced and unbalanced faults are identified and located accurately while accounting for changes in conductor sizes and network configuration. The concepts and methodologies presented have been spurred by a need for an accurate fault location scheme to accommodate multiple feeders with mixed line configurations. A case study based on a section of the Otter Tail network is presented to illustrate the features and capabilities of the software.<>
