Abstract :
The paper describes the development of synchronous area-coverage techniques for UHF FM portable radio telephones. In order to evaluate the technique, UHF nondemodulating repeaters were developed and installed on three typical radio sites around the city of Bath, and facilities were included in this protype scheme to enable a direct comparison between synchronous and quasisynchronous working on a single-, two-or three-station scheme, Although the work was primarily directed towards area-coverage techniques for portables, much of the work is also relevant to vehicular mobile application.
