Abstract :
Using physical optics a receiving analysis of the shaped cylindrical reflector antenna is presented. Expressions are derived for both parallel and transverse incident wave polarisations, for the scattered field set up by the reflector at a general point lying in the plane containing its central-section curve. The power coupled from the scattered field into an appropriately polarised feed is then used to derive directive gain functions for both polarisations. A more general gain function is also derived where a feed of arbitrary polarisation is considered. All of the `working¿¿ equations derived require the evaluation of a single exponential-type integral which must, in general, be evaluated numerically. Three applications of the, receiving analysis are described, which illustrate its suitability for analysing a wide range of reflector-antenna problems.
