Abstract
Manufacturing in the heyday of discrete components is described, drawing on conversation with veteran engineers about the particular components with which they worked. Electron tubes, capacitors, resistors, and relays are discussed. It emerges that the ingredients and recipes for manufacturing discrete components have changed surprisingly little over the years.<>
