Abstract :
The authors developed theoretical mass and size models of iron-core HPGs (homopolar generators). They then analyzed the sensitivity of the size and mass of the HPG´s to variations in HPG performance requirements, and key independent design parameters. The mass and size of the HPG was found to depend strongly on the output voltage and current requirements, the slip ring velocity, the current density of the current collectors and the slip ring (axially), and the collectors´ brush and actuation system volume
