Abstract
The design criteria for direct and indirect microwave synthesisers are given and a number of designs are described. The merits of the two types are compared, particularly as regards noise performance and switching time. The effects of the environment, especially vibration, shock and noise on the power supplies are discussed and guidelines are given for the minimisation of such effects.
