Abstract :
During a September 1987 Workshop on non-railgun accelerators, a consensus was reached on a taxonomy for electromagnetic launchers (EMLs). A refined version of that taxonomy, which is based on functional requirements, is presented. Three EML features, armature excitation stator field control, and mode of operation, are the basis of the classification system
